TOEFL

The TOEFL iBT is one of the most popular English proficiency exams accepted by American and Canadian universities and other educational establishments overseas.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), administered by ETS, examines all four academic English skills—reading, listening, speaking, and writing—in the same way, that these skills are utilized in college and university courses.

ETS has introduced the TOEFL Home version for applicants wishing to take the TOEFL test during the pandemic from the comfort of their homes. Candidates eligible for the TOEFL exam are in for a pleasant surprise.

The TOEFL exam is frequently offered using the TOEFL iBT computer delivery technique (internet-based test). To give more students who want to take the TOEFL exam access, ETS recently began offering TOEFL paper-delivered tests.

All three exam formats—TOEFL iBT, TOEFL iBT Home edition, and the TOEFL paper-delivered test—will cost candidates who wish to register for the TOEFL test US$190 each.

The ETS TOEFL exam registration process is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Candidates have several options for registering for the TOEFL exam, in person, over the phone, by mail, or online (via an authorized agent).

The TOEFL online registration period concludes seven days before the exam, and late registration shuts four days before the test date with a US$40 late charge. Candidates should also be aware of these dates.

Why take the TOEFL Exam?

Most students who intend to pursue higher education overseas take the ETS TOEFL exam. Students taking the TOEFL exam would also make them eligible for several scholarships and assist those searching for work abroad with the visa application process.

One of the most popular English-language exams for students who want to study overseas is TOEFL, which is accepted by more than 11,000 colleges and institutions worldwide, including those in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK, the United States, and throughout Europe and Asia.

It has several advantages for students who desire to pursue their education abroad to choose the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Since more TOEFL scores are transmitted to institutions in the US and Canada than all other English-language exams combined, it is the exam of choice for students who desire to pursue higher education abroad.

Similarly, TOEFL is a more popular English test internationally since more TOEFL scores than other English tests are sent to colleges in Germany, France, the United States, and Canada.

Students are also guaranteed a fair and impartial procedure of score reporting by ETS, the organization that administers the TOEFL, which adds to the test's authenticity.

TOEFL: Eligibility Criteria

  • Students who desire to pursue an international education must take the TOEFL exam. Many students are confused by the TOEFL eligibility requirements. According to ETS, the organization responsible for administering the test, candidates will be relieved to learn that there are no age restrictions, educational requirements, or prerequisites for taking the TOEFL iBT.

Types of TOEFL Exam

The TOEFL test formats—the TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test), the TOEFL Paper-delivered Test, and the TOEFL Home Edition—should be known to applicants.

Over 98% of TOEFL exams are administered in the iBT format, the more popular test format. Considering student security and the pandemic, the TOEFL Paper-delivered test has been reopened.

The third option is the TOEFL iBT Home Edition, which can be taken in the comfort of your own home under the watchful eye of a proctor for the actual test.

TOEFL iBT (Internet-based Test)

The TOEFL Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT), as the name implies, is the online version of the TOEFL test for applicants planning to take the exam.

Because it is more convenient and utilizes fewer resources, it is the preferred TOEFL media. The administration of these TOEFL exams is permitted in major cities around the nation at TOEFL iBT test centers.

TOEFL Paper-delivered Test

In a few countries, ETS has reopened the TOEFL iBT test on paper. The same four skills will be tested by the TOEFL iBT paper-delivered test, administered throughout two testing sessions and delivered on paper.

The TOEFL Reading, Listening, and Writing parts at a testing facility would be completed on paper. Within three days of the paper portions, candidates must meet the TOEFL Speaking section online at home under the supervision of a human proctor.

There are a few nations where you can take the TOEFL exam on paper. Test takers must have the requisite environment and equipment before registering for the ETS TOEFL exam because the Speaking component is being given at home.

TOEFL Paper-based Test (PBT)

The TOEFL paper-based test (PBT), once accessible in regions with a low or constrained Internet connection, assesses candidates' listening, Reading, and writing abilities. Due to a lack of technology, the TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) only comprises three sections: listening, reading, and writing. There is no speaking section.

The TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) is no longer administered, though. Candidates should distinguish between the TOEFL Paper-delivered test and the TOEFL Paper-based test (PBT). The offline version of the TOEFL iBT Test is the TOEFL Paper Delivered test.

TOEFL Home Edition

For the convenience of students who must take the English test as part of their application process for studying abroad, ETS has introduced the TOEFL Home Edition for areas where the computer-based version of the TOEFL iBT test was previously available in response to COVID 19.
