Studying Law in Nepal: A Step-by-Step Guide
To pursue a law degree in Nepal, your first step is to successfully complete the plus two level. This qualification is acceptable regardless of the subject studied, whether it be Science, Management, Humanities, HM, or any other faculty.
Once you have completed your plus two, you are required to take an entrance exam, and it's crucial to note that the available seats are limited. To participate in the entrance exam, you must fill out the entry form during the specified period. Different universities conduct entrance exams at various times.
Currently, Nepal offers two bachelor of law courses, namely:
LL. B (Bachelor of Laws):
LL. B is a three-year course available at private and constituent campuses of TU.
This program is conducted in six constituent campuses of TU and one private affiliated college.
Notably, Nepal Law Campus records the highest number of LLB admissions in the country.
Bachelor of Arts Bachelor of Laws (BA LLB):
The TU BA LLB program admits a total of 280 students annually, considering both affiliated colleges and TU Constituent campuses.
Merit-based reservations are in place, with 53 seats specifically allocated for this program.
Reserved seats include categories such as Women (11), Indigenous Nationalities (8), Madhesi (8), Dalit (5), People with Disabilities (5), People from backward areas (3), Muslim (3), Tharu (5), and Others (5).
Requirements for BA LLB Admission
Candidates must have completed a 10+2 intermediate degree or an equivalent qualification lasting at least two years in any field, with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and at least a 'C' grade in all subjects.
To enroll in the BA LLB program at TU institutes, students are required to participate in and successfully clear the entrance examination conducted by TU. Similarly, for admission to the BA LLB Program at KU, students must pass the Kathmandu University Law School Admission Test (KULSAT).
Opportunities and Career Prospects
The field of law has consistently been in high demand, offering diverse career opportunities for law students in various sectors, including:
- Banks
- District Offices
- Corporate Groups
- News Organizations
- Colleges and Universities
- Notary Public Offices
- Investigation Police
- Businesses
- Courts
- Law Firms
- Government Agencies
Depending on their specialization, individuals aspiring for a career in law can earn a monthly salary ranging from NPR 15,000 to NPR 40,000 in the early stages. Over time, as they gain experience and expertise, the salary is likely to increase significantly, with the potential to surpass NPR 1 lakh per month.
